Laser Cut Modern Art Jewelry - Oculus Gorilla Tag Monke Gift

We had a last minute birthday party announcement for one of my child's friends mid-week. It was a busy week with my other child coming home sick, and we spent the entire evening at the school talent show Friday watching her MC so still hadn't gotten around to picking up a gift. Her and her friend play Oculus together and his favorite game is Gorilla Tag, so she decided making something with the Monke character (spelled correctly...lol) would be fun. Monke looks like a grumpy monkey. Now, what to make with Mr. Monkey?
Birthday card, painting, art cut-out, monkey necklace?
Since my hubby's semi-midlife crisis, we agreed he could finally buy a CnC/laser which takes up only HALF of our 2-car garage (sarcasm....yes). It is great for doing prototypes and he uses it a lot for his main job and fun side projects. We had done a laser cut pendant a few years back when my daughter was obsessed with drittens: (think 'wings of fire' book series crossed with your house cat)....they are essentially dragon kittens or kittens with angst and fire..lol. We were in a pandemic afterall so ya, more angst and fire and less kitten. We weren't going to find a dritten at the tourist shop in town or probably anywhere, so late one night we laser cut one out in our garage and she painted it with watercolor.
So here we are again late last night at 9 o'clock, after the show and after an ice cream treat pit stop to celebrate, when she decided she wanted to make him a Monke necklace to resemble the monkey in the Oculus Gorilla Tag game. Yes, at 9pm. (see a theme?) She scrolled through images and found one she wanted to have her dad cut out from leftover basswood. The monkey turned out great for a grumpy MONKE, and her dad drilled a hole while we picked out chain and a suede bag to put it in.
It's funny, I didn't intend to write a whole entry about Monke or take random pictures of one but hey, most of life never happens how we intend it to. We are thinking of finding her old dritten and having a collection on the site for unusual kid jewelry...lol. There must be other parents trying to find drittens for gifts?? Maybe. For now, here's monkey looking super thrilled about his unplanned photo op.
